P.S. on the Big dig

After appearing to be abandoned, things began happening again. There is a large red spray-painted symbol on the corrugated iron wall that says X NCA. I didn’t know if that meant the Nairobi Council was doing something, like condemning the site or planning to move the fence or what. However, I discovered that NCA means the Nairobi Construction Association, and they have taken possession of the hole.

A few days later, we saw men in purple and yellow uniforms digging holes along the road near the corrugated fence. The holes kept multiplying at regular intervals. Today when we went walking, long metals poles had been cemented into the holes. My guess is they are going to put up a chain link fence. It is about two feet away from the current barrier, which means it will be at a safer distance from the side of the hole since the sides have a tendency to collapse.

Word on the street is that the NCA will start building in January after the rains. I’m still not sure how they will get any equipment down in the hole to build with or how they will get the sand, cement and gravel down there. Hopefully, my contacts here will keep up posted on the progress.
